Our speaker will be our own Art Williams, who spent much of his career in the oil business dealing specifically with off-shore drilling issues. He will discuss basic issues involved in off-shore drilling and if time allows, will answer your questions. This will be a very informative program in light of the recent developments in the Gulf.

Regular Meeting 6:00 PM. Our speaker will be Robert Thach, who is a biologist affiliated with Washington University in St.Louis. He has recently finished an exhaustive study of tick-borne diseases, including the rapidly emerging and potentially fatal disease known as Ehrlichiosis. If you or your family are spending much time outside this summer, you need to know how to recognize the symptoms of this relatively new condition. (Bring your internist along for this program)

Regular Meeting 6:00 PM. In light of current concerns over the condition of the Alton-Wood River Levee (and the US Army Corps of Engineers' plan to fix it with fly ash), it might be interesting to revisit the L-15 controversy, which developed as a result of a plan by the Corps of Engineers to build an industrial levee on the flood plain across from Alton after the 1973 flood. The Alton community essentially stopped the project and in retrospect, it is a good thing they did. The issues during the 1973 are still pertinent today. Bill Hoagland will present the program.

Regular Meeting 6:00 PM. Our speaker will be John Caupert, a professor at SIUE who specializes in the study of bio-fuels. He will discuss how current government policy regarding the development and use of bio-fuels does not mesh with recent advancements in the bio-fuel industry.
